Cirque du Soleil

The past week or so, the Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson Immortal Tour group has been staying at the Hilton Garden Inn. Greg has been working long hours, but had great stories to tell about the incredible people he was interacting with while at work. I went to drop off lunch for him one day and some of the performers were practicing in the hallway!

I think Greg may have mentioned something about going to the show early on, but neither of us had much of an interest in spending money to go see it. The day of the performance Greg called me and said "The Cirque du Soleil group left the hotel free tickets to the show... wanna go?" Well, free is a very good price and even though it would be a late night on a weekday (I am so lame) I decided it would be a fun date night :) We rode the city bus with some of Greg's coworkers to Matthew Knight Arena at the UofO.

Our seats were AMAZING. And so was the show! I don't know how much I would have loved it if I had paid over $100 for it or if it was a regular Cirque du Soleil theme though. I am not a Michael Jackson fanatic, but I do enjoy his music. I think 50 different Michael Jackson songs were played, and the show was put on in such a way that it seemed more like a musical.

While Greg and I did not yell out "We love you Michael!", cry buckets of tears throughout the show, or wear Michael Jackson themed clothing, we had a really great time. I definitely recommend the show to anyone who is considering purchasing tickets.

  1. I bet the Michael Jackson theme would make it pretty fun.
We went to see Cirque du Soleil once. It was really awesome until one of the performers fell from a chandelier thing she was spinning around on. She didn't move and I really thought she was dead. It was the most frightening thing I have ever experienced. After 30 minutes of intermission (they closed the curtains) the show started again. I read in the paper that she was discharged from the hospital later that week so I guess she was ok. I'm not sure if I would be brave enough to go again. We were on edge for the rest of the show afraid someone else would get hurt.
