It's A Girl!

We had our ultrasound a week ago and found we are having a GIRL! We were surprised shocked! Greg had convinced me since the beginning (along with his brothers and cousins) that there was no chance that we would have a girl. Greg has 13 cousins on his dad's side and only one of the four that are girls is a biological Teune. I was fine with the thought of having a boy, we even had a name picked out and everything.

As we arrived at the doctor's office I was more anxious than I have been in quite a while. I couldn't wait to "see" our little one. At our midwife appointments when we hear the heartbeat I don't really get all touched and weepy over it, I just feel like "okay, good our baby is still alive and well." And when I look over at Greg to see him smiling beaming more than he was on our wedding day I feel a little guilty. However, when the ultrasound began and I saw that precious little profile, I was speechless. Still, no tears, but to me this was way better than simply hearing the heartbeat!

After a while, the tech was becoming frustrated that our little one wasn't moving around enough to give a clear enough shot of the gender. She poked and prodded my stomach, reclined the table I was on so I was almost completely upside down, but still not a whole lot of movement. She had the doctor come in to have a go at it and our baby began to move a bit more. He smiled at us and said, "well I'm not seeing any protuberances, so I'd say we have a little girl in there." I had a brief moment of joy, but then wasn't sure if I believed the doctor. He tried to get a 3D picture of our little girl's face, but she kept moving her arms around by her face and could not get a clear picture. As he finished he said, "Yep, even though it was hard to see perfectly, I'd say 95% sure you're having a girl."

When he left I looked at Greg who was beaming at the news and I said, "95%?! I want 100%!" All I could picture was us getting all of this little girl gear and then giving birth to a boy. So when the ultrasound technician came back in to make us a CD of our pictures I asked, "Um, is 95% certainty of gender good?" She laughed and said, "Why? What did the doctor say you were having?" I told her about our little girl and she said, "Well, if it eases your mind at all I thought it was a girl too but wanted his confirmation just to be sure." It did ease my mind, but I can't help but wonder if there will be a surprise come delivery day!

The best of the profile shots. She kept her left hand up by her face almost the entire time so you can't really see her nose or lips because of the hand sticking up from the other side. 

Tada! At 20 weeks I am FINALLY showing. It seriously just happened about a week and half ago. And now there is no going back. I have worn dresses a few times the past week and family could really tell how much she has popped. Luckily I still fit into one of my jeans. I think I can get away with using a hair tie or rubber band through the button holes to make them last until June when I finish my practicum work in the classroom. Then I have two weeks of working at basketball camps where I will be in shorts and tshirts. My mom says I will be shocked after those two weeks when I try to get back into "normal" clothes, ha ha.

We are not quite settled on a name just yet. We have a couple ideas, but keep going back and forth. I told Greg we may have to just wait until we see her in person and decide which name fits her best.
